Budgies decide what to eat by sight, texture and taste, offering a wide variety of fruit and vegetables provide a healthy balanced diet.  Try not to alter the natural state of the fruit and vegetables when preparing them.  Hang the fruit and vegetables from the cage fronts using a wooden peg as the bird also loves nibbling wood.  A bit like humans if you introduce this type of diet when the birds are young then they adapt to it easier than trying to alter the diet of an older budgie.

Below is some advice regarding fruit and vegetables and also a list of recommended fruit and vegetables I would supply to my budgies.

Fruit & Vegetable Advice

ALWAYS wash all fruit and vegetables thoroughly before feeding, I tend to leave mine in the cold water for about 10 minutes.  Remove all pits and any seeds from the fruit (i.e. apple seeds)

ALWAYS remove the fruits and vegetables daily.  Due to the high fluid levels in fruit and vegetables then the urine droppings from the birds will increase, always bear this in mind if you notice they drink less water than normal once you introduce fruit and vegetables as they also contain water.
